Some of my favourite shots on any given travel shoot are the random street scenes captured between locations. As my series from around Tokyo, Japan continues to unfold as part of the Overseas collection, in anticipation of the (delayed) 2020 Summer Olympics, I put together this collage to provide a brief overview of some of the releases thus far.

Graduate Providence | Biltmore Hotel in Rhode Island
The Graduate Providence, which opened in 1922 as the Providence Biltmore, is a luxury hotel located in downtown Providence, Rhode Island. The hotel was renovated and reopened in 2019 as the Graduate Providence, and like their other boutique hotels in college towns across the U.S., they've brought their signature quirks, style, and upscale design to this historic property.
From bold prints and patterns to brass and gold finishes, the updated design of the Graduate Providence is the perfect blend of trendy and traditional.
There are a lot of memorable touches hiding in plain sight, like a sign on the (no longer working) glass elevator from a renovation in the seventies that now says "use for time travel only". A modern bank of elevators has since replaced the glass one, but the comedic nod is just enough encouragement to make you take a closer look at all the details.
What can't be missed is the "Mutt Cutts" van from Dumb and Dumber parked directly out front of the hotel. The cross country road trip in the 1994 movie kicks off in Providence, making for the perfect Rhode Island photo op. It was working too, everyone walking by had their phones ready.
While a drive through Rhode Island is short, the Graduate Providence is worth the overnight.

Clay, Creativity, and the Comeback: Official Poster
After a year and a half since its premiere, I've finally added a framed poster of Clay, Creativity, and the Comeback - the feature length documentary I directed in 2019 - to my office wall.
The documentary chronicles how the abandoned factories of a century old clay industry were saved and revitalized over a decades long journey involving countless devoted individuals. Clay, Creativity, and the Comeback is a story about heritage, reinvention, rebuilding an Alberta landmark that would become a National Historic Site of Canada, and the years of effort involved in uncovering the stories hidden inside the industrial ruins that many deemed unsavable.Filmed on location in the historic clay district in my hometown of Medicine Hat, Alberta - the entire documentary, produced with the support of Telus, is free to watch online here.
