Windswept beaches, iconic landmarks, and unforgettable ocean views dominated this bucket list coastal road trip from Seattle to San Diego. The visuals captured and shared over the many months since this trip have already resulted in return visits to many of these locations and new additions to my growing Pacific Northwest series and Roadside California series.
To summarize the travel photography shot over a trip as thorough and ambitious as this is no easy task, but it's certainly fun to try! Click any of the image descriptions below for the full photo sets connected to these 100 images from this epic journey along the Pacific.

From iconic marquees to bustling crowds, Broadway is an incredible location to explore in downtown Los Angeles, California. As one of the city's first commercial districts, Broadway gained prominence in the early 20th century as the site of some of the finest theaters and movie palaces in the world. This included, among others, the Million Dollar Theatre, Orpheum Theatre, United Artists Theatre, Los Angeles Theatre, and Tower Theatre.
Broadway was once considered the center of the city, and in the 1920s and 1930s the street marked the western end point of Route 66 (it then moved to the Santa Monica Pier). As Los Angeles grew in the 1950s and the attention of the movie industry shifted to Hollywood and newer venues, the theatres and street in general began to decline in later decades.
The Broadway Theater District has since undergone a lot of renewal in recent years with many buildings being repurposed as condos, apartments, and hotels. Other restoration / revitalization projects along Broadway have included the iconic Bradbury Building, the Ace Hotel and United Artists Theatre, and the dynamic Grand Central Market. It's tough not to be won over by the architecture, energy, and novelty found along this amazing street. Broadway packs a punch of character and charm that makes DTLA a blast to discover for yourself.
A continuation of my "Then & Now" photo series of Medicine Hat, Alberta featuring archival and modern day images in side by side comparisons.
1912 & 2017 - 2nd Street
2nd Street decorated with banners and ribbons leading up to Canada's 45th birthday in 1912.
1912 & 2017 - Connaught School
The Duke of Connaught, member of the Royal Family and Governor General of Canada, helps to lay the cornerstone at a ceremony during the construction of Connaught School. More than a century on, Connaught School is still operating and the cornerstone is still in place.
1953 & 2017 - North Railway Street
Quite a few subtle changes along North Railway.
1970s & 2017 - Courthouse
While the courthouse looks pretty much the same, you'll notice that in addition to some landscaping, the back end of the building was actually expanded.
1913 & 2017 - Downtown
You might think that I used Finlay Bridge to line up these two shots, but it's actually Fifth Avenue Church (in the centre of both images) that really showcases the surrounding change.

1910 & 2017 - Hotel Redcliff
The original structure is still visible in the modern day image, however it's clear that a lot has changed with this hotel in Redcliff, Alberta over the last century.
1936 & 2017 - Train Station
A passenger train prepares to load at the Medicine Hat train station in 1936. Not only has passenger service since ended, this area of the train station is now part of the parking lot in 2017.
