Surfing in Tofino on Vancouver Island

What makes Tofino, British Columbia such a unique spot on Vancouver Island is that it's an especially vibrant community that's also really secluded from everything else. A drive from Victoria to Tofino is about 4.5 hours, for example, and the winding road to the western coast of the Island is pretty memorable in its own right.

Tofino is known for surfing, and the town is populated with cool little surf shops, restaurants, and a great local brewery. The vibe here is relaxed for the most part, although in the right conditions the beaches are full of both newbie and seasoned surfers. The scenery really sells the experience. I couldn't think of a more appropriate setting to showcase some of the incredible coastal views found on Vancouver Island. There's something special about Tofino.

Pre-Order: MHHS As It Was

The modernization of Medicine Hat High School in Medicine Hat, Alberta has already significantly changed the school forever. If you follow my work on Instagram or Facebook you'll already know that over the last few months I've been designing an original photo book featuring the photo series I shot of MHHS just prior to these renovations beginning. After several weeks of teasers, here's a first look at MHHS As It Was. 

You might be asking what makes this photo book of Medicine Hat High School worth buying? For starters, MHHS was a high school that looked relatively unchanged to thousands of students over a number of decades. It's almost a certainty that you'll recognize portions of this high school even if you haven't walked the hallways since you graduated. 

Secondly, this photo series of Medicine Hat High School was really the last thorough exploration that was documented of the old school. There are no other images of Medicine Hat High School like this, and no opportunity to recreate them now that the school has been completely transformed. Whether you graduated from MHHS in the 1970s or the 2010s, you'll undoubtedly experience a lot of nostalgia flipping through the pages of MHHS As It Was.

Specifics about MHHS As It Was:

• 8x10" softcover photo book. 
• 100 page count. Professionally printed and bound.
• Featuring 180+ images of MHHS prior to renovation, including exclusive shots of some of the early interior demolition. 
• Official release in September / October 2017.
• Cost of $30 per book. 

Due to the very specific nature of this project, MHHS As It Was is only viable through a limited edition print run to maintain the cost. This means that publication of all the books will happen at one time, and once they're gone - they're gone.

Timelapse: Sunset at the Saamis Teepee

Last weekend I shot a timelapse of the sunset at the Saamis Teepee in Medicine Hat, Alberta. It's always interesting to capture something as common as a sunset and frame it in a way that highlights how spectacular it really is. This was just a short experiment, but it went over pretty well on social media. Watch the video of the sunset timelapse below.
