Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California
As one of the most recognizable landmarks in greater Los Angeles, the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California has been attracting visitors for over a century. From buskers and novelty shops to the ferris wheel and roller coaster of Pacific Park, there's a lot happening here. Santa Monica Pier is also the final stop on Route 66, and fittingly the views are just as iconic.
A spot like this seems ideal for soaking up an array of California visuals. I grabbed a burger and fries and listened to some of the musicians performing on the pier as the sun went down. On the beach people were taking in the ocean views and getting their feet wet. Meanwhile couples posed for pictures as kids screamed overhead as the roller coaster made another loop around the track. All and all, it was another near perfect day at the Santa Monica Pier.
