We arrived at Yaquina Head as the sun was setting. Just as we approached a woman pointed out a pod of whales breaching in the distance. Tons of birds nesting on a nearby rock also provided entertainment as waves crashed below. We used what remaining light we had to get a better view from the hill above, snapping pictures as we went, before continuing on to Coos Bay.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse, Oregon Coast
First lit in 1873, the Yaquina Head Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse along an incredibly scenic stretch of the Oregon coast near Newport. At 93 feet tall, it's the tallest lighthouse in Oregon and is surrounded by jagged rocks, marine life, nearby beaches and coastal trails.
