I'm excited to announce that I've partnered with SPECTACLE, a Calgary based architectural firm for an upcoming exhibition in downtown Medicine Hat. Scheduled for September 27 to 29, as part of the Downtown Art Walk and Alberta Culture Days, the exhibition will celebrate some of the history of the Hat's downtown core while providing ideas for its revitalization.
The exhibit will be held in the historic Beveridge Block, a building that I photographed the interior of earlier this year. As part of my role in the exhibition, I'll be sharing some of my images from my Around the Hat series. I also hope to raise some awareness of the history here by sharing some of the discoveries I made while photographing various downtown interiors. I think a lot of people will be surprised by the potential that is being left to waste away in some of these old buildings. I'm excited about being involved in getting a discussion going on the issue.
This opportunity is something I'm pretty excited about, especially because it's near and dear to a project that I've already invested so much time in. It's also something a bit different and unique for the Hat, and should appeal to anyone interested in preserving or learning more about our historic downtown. For more details you can follow the Thinking Hat facebook page or check us out on Alberta's Culture Calendar.
The exhibition opening is scheduled for September 27 from 7-10pm.
