Located at the entrance of the Columbia River in Washington, this battery was last used in World War II. The massive guns that helped guard the coast have long since been removed, but the abandoned battery is now open to the public to explore.

Battery Harvey Allen at Fort Canby
Having photographed a number of abandoned locations for my Around the Hat photo series, my fascination for places like this has only increased. Battery Harvey Allen was a place we came across by surprise while exploring Cape Disappointment on our drive up the Pacific coast.
